Group Dynamics (teaching group work successfully)
At work or at school, we are often asked to do work as a group. As Educators and Employers, we must equip students and workers with tools that make groups or teamwork successful. It's called "Group Dynamics". I've conducted research and written a university paper on the effectiveness of collaborative learning. I've also put into practice, in the classroom, various strategies, regularly to help students accept group work as an important tool for the future in the workforce. If some of the fear of group work is reduced by using methods that work, collaborating with others will not only bring better results, it will improve the learning and make for a better educational and working environment.
My philosophy on collaborative learning is very strong and that it must be incorporated somehow, someway in all courses as part of the learning outcome. Group dynamics must be taught and practised repetitively in order to gain the skills needed to deal with the issues that arise from working with others. It takes time and patience and many other attributes to become successful and gain the benefits of group work. (...see my collaborative learning mini symposium...)
